In search of God
Being born in an ardent Brahmin
family I have always been raised edified with God and Religion. There has
always been ambivalence with people regarding God. There are many people who
infringe other religions over theirs. There is always a misconception of
religion and God.
Throughout my life I never used
to believe in Religion which never means I don’t believe in God. I am a firm
believer in God and I trust what God has created (Humans) than what humans
created (Religion). There is always an oddity in me which makes me search for
the existence of God. Over a period of days; I read holy books, went to a lot
of holy shrines, churches, mosques and got blown away by the history and the
ambiance. But my question for life never really got answered. Somewhere I knew
that God was not in those shrines that I visited coz everytime when I asked
about the history of the holy shrine, priest told that it was built some 1000
years ago, 5000 years ago, 300 and everyday lakhs of people used to visit and
get the blessing from what they believed as God. I always wondered how a man
could create God, build something for Him and make Him immobile.
Even after reading several books,
visiting many holy places I never found answer for what I was searching for;
in-fact my confusion grew larger day by day after reading a book or visiting a
shrine. I wanted facts but all I got was stories.
During the last two years when my
life wasn’t going where I wanted, everyone around me told that I got a curse.
Someone had done some black magic so that whatever I may do I end up failing. I
went to temple everyday allocating each day for a particular God, I stayed
without eating on one particular day in a week to impress God so that my fortunes
could change overnight, but I always found my wishes unheard.
During one of those days in my
bad phase, I took my bike and went for a long ride during a breezy evening. I
drove about for a couple of hours and there was a heavy downpour. I decided to
return back and there was absolutely dark in that remote region. There weren’t
any street lights and the road was worse so I had to drive slowly. My
headlights made my vision upto a certain point, but that wasn’t enough. As I
trotted forward I saw a women standing on the side and waving her hand.
I stopped my bike beside her. She
was completely drenched and was carrying a child. She covered the child’s face
and body with a sack. As I stopped beside her, she came forward and said that
she was waiting for some help; her baby was bitten by a snake. She was waiting
and waving her hand for help but none of the vehicles stopped to help her. She
sat behind me with her baby and I drove as fast as possible to the nearby
hospital. She told me the directions for the hospital and we reached there in
20 minutes. We both rushed to the available doctor there and said the condition
of the boy. The doctor’s there checked him and admitted in the operation
theatre.
Within twenty minutes the
doctor’s came out and said that the boy was out of danger and said that we had
brought the boy on time and if it was late then the poison would have reached
his brain and would have died. The boy’s mother was in tears with happiness
that her boy was saved. She ran to the Ganesh statue that was placed at the
entrance of the hospital and knelt down and thanked Him for saving her child.
Few minutes later, I went near
her and said that it was getting late for me and I had to leave. She grabbed
both my hands and touched her forehead and thanked me with tears. She said, “You are God to me and my child, we both
would never forget your help. You saved my boy’s life and my happiness. You be
happy always son.”
I smiled at her and left the
place. Her words echoed in me; ‘You are God to me and my child.’ I
was thinking about the woman and her child on my way back home. My quest for
over 22 years has got its answer. ‘God’,
just a three letter word that still out of reach for Human knowledge. But when
you understand something, it seems to be so simple. Help is something that is
God. Making someone happy is God.
Everyone has God in them and God
comes out whenever you want to help and bring happiness to other. God is beyond
imagination but sometimes we search the entire world for something that’s
within us. God is not the one to whom we just light a candle, put a garland and
pray for hours sitting in shrines; God is someone within us and within every
person. It’s time that we stop searching for the existence of God and start
living a life that He wished.
Religion is something that Humans
created and Humans are created by God. So it’s time that we realise the truth
about who created us and what we created. God created everyone the same but we
created Religion and discriminated ourselves. Bring out the God in you.
Spread smiles and live life like
a God!
